The Esplanade Scenic Railway was established in 1969 and travels through native bush and secluded areas of the Esplanade.  
The New extension loop takes the railway all the way to the children's playground and back again.

The track is 2.2km long, and the ride is approximately 20 minutes duration.

Passengers can purchase a return ticket, which will allow them to enjoy the facilities provided at either end of the park.

Hours:

1 - 4pm Saturday and Sunday, and public holidays

Open every day during School Holidays 1 - 4pm

11am - 5pm from Boxing Day to Wellington Anniversary weekend.
